The User Service Unit plays a vital role in the department’s mandate to safeguard our country’s history through the acquisition, organization, preservation and dissemination of records vital to Belize’s national heritage. The USU plays a dual role in the department as it is tasked with not only the management of archival records, but also, the provision of information to the public. The Unit’s skilled Archives Officers ensure that all archival and reference materials are properly stored and arranged under the regulation of archival standards and work diligently to develop and update collection listings to make research easier and more efficient. Officers of the USU share a communal space with researchers in the Research Room.
